Animals get to the “Second home’’ shelter for different reasons – some of them was left outside by their reckless owners, others have become homeless because of their owner’s death, the rest just got lost and could not find the way home.
All cats and dogs in our shelter live as long as they need until they get new real home and loving owner, thus the main rule and principle of the ‘’Second home’’ shelter is not to euthanize animals.
The shelter has just been working for a year but during this time 120 four legged friend lives were saved and 90 animals got their new homes. Staff of the shelter do all possible to make animals feel as comfortable as it possible in shelter’s conditions. All our animals are vaccinated with all needed vaccines and microchipped. Registering an adoption officially or returning a pet to its previous owner, all the animals are being registered in data base of Latvia.
Maintenance and treatment of the “Second home’’ shelter’s animals are possible only with the donations of caring people!
We do all possible to find a new stable home for our animals, but in spite of our efforts and volunteer help the amount of adopted animals is the same as an amount of ‘’new ones’’. There are 30 dogs and 20 cats regularly being maintained in our shelter. Daily maintenance of a dog costs on the average 4 euros a day, for a cat – 1,80 euro.
All donations will be used for food and maintenance of animals in the shelter.

Food – canned food for dogs and cats, qualitative dry food as for juniors as for seniors as well and other dry delicious snacks for animals;
New or previously used dog-lead and dog-collar;
Dry firewood or briquets to keep in warm indoor animal paws during cold seasons;
Blankets, bedsheets or towels for places to sleep of the shelter’s animals;
Dry straw for outdoor animals.
All the interested can get acquainted with our animals, spend some time with them and give them love and care, so please call us, write us and come to visit our shelter! We will be happy to every good person, whereas cats and dogs always wait for new owners!
