Lets Help Normunds Putniņš

Normunds is from Riga, he’s married, the father of two adult children, and the grandfather of two grandchildren. He works in building construction and is a certified construction supervisor and restorer. In his free time, Normunds loves to travel and in winter – skiing. Normunds is currently one of approximately only 200 people in the world with a rare diagnosis - leiomyosarcoma.

Normunds is a somewhat atypical man who regularly does sports, cares for himself, and checks his health regularly. A little over a year ago, he was diagnosed with benign prostate dysplasia and underwent surgery. Although initially the tests were good, there were complications in the postoperative period, which revealed a new diagnosis - a stage 4 leiomyosarcoma with metastases in the lungs and pelvis. Analyzes were carried out which showed that the only drug to which the cells of this tumor responded was Olaparib. The doctors' council also approved this approach. These drugs are covered by the state for ovarian, uterine, and breast tumors, but not for prostate cancer in men. Therefore every month, Normunds needs 2350 euros for this vital medicine. For the first months, the meds were bought with family funds, but money is running short to continue the treatment. 10 doses for 23,500 euros are required. In addition, Normunds has consulted with an oncologist-chemotherapist, who ordered in-depth genetic testing of the tumor to determine more precise information on which conventional and complementary medications could be effective in this case. This testing costs 4,500 euros. The treatment plan also includes immunotherapy methods - dendritic cell and cytokine-induced mast cell vaccines. They cost a total of 11,000 euros.

"Our life changed quite radically, however, we as a family decided that the diagnosis is not a reason not to live, and we are actively looking for opportunities for treatment and to continue living to the fullest," says Normunds and asks for the help of fellow human beings!
