Ilze is 47 years young, energetic mother of two children aged 11 and 12. In the recent years, Ilze has been raising her children alone, moved from the capital to Nereta, where life is calmer, closer to nature and easier to afford. She is looking at the difficulties from the bright side.
Ilze is a nurse, who spent most of her life at the Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital. She is currently working as a nurse at the Nereta's School. She has helped many to survive and live with an illness, and to accept life after an illness. Unfortunately, she had to experience life with illness too. She was diagnosed with breast cancer 4 years ago. At the first stage, the disease was successfully overcome, but a year ago, bone pain and shortness of breath raised concerns about the return of the disease. Sadly, investigations have confirmed this. Predictions for recovery were pessimistic, but Ilze did not give up, and went to a consultation at the Tartu University Hospital. Ilze has been able to live with hope for the future, thanks to the medication prescribed at the hospital in Tartu. For half a year, Ilze has been funding her own treatment in Tartu, but for the currently prescribed medicaments it is not possible due to high costs.(edited)
The doctors at the Tartu hospital have prescribed Faslodex in combination with Ibrance. There is enough money for the first course with donor support, but the medicine is needed for two further courses, totaling EUR 6893.08, of which EUR 309.48 is in the balance from the previous donations. Ibrance in Latvia is a partly state-compensated medication, which is granted by the National Health Service on an individual basis. At the same time, the price of medicaments in Estonia, even without government's compensation, is even slightly cheaper - 2846.54 per dose.
"At the Tartu hospital, I was again put on a road called life. I very much want to live and raise my children, who are currently a little bit rebellious, but endlessly lovely teenagers. And I want to continue to help those who have trouble coping when they find out about a malignant disease," says Ilze and asks for assistance from others.
