Uldis is originally from Līvbērze, but for the past 19 years he has lived in Riga with his family. He is 44 years old and the proud father of two wonderful children: a 16-year-old son and an 11-year-old daughter. His children are his greatest joy, his strength, and his motivation to continue fighting.
Sadly, the family’s life changed unexpectedly and painfully when Uldis was diagnosed with stage IV stomach cancer with metastases. From that moment, everything changed. Their normal life, filled with work, everyday responsibilities, and plans for the future, became a fight for health and survival.
This is an extremely difficult time for the whole family. It is heartbreaking to know that this illness has come at a time when his children still need their father so much: his presence, guidance, love, and support.
Uldis is currently undergoing chemotherapy. However, in order to continue his treatment and preserve the hope of slowing the progression of the disease, the medical council has prescribed a medication. Although this medicine is included on Latvia’s list of reimbursable medicines, in Uldis’s case the family must pay for it themselves.
The medication costs €7,824 every three weeks, which amounts to €140,832 per year. Learning about these costs brought despair, but the family continues to hold on to hope and the support of kind-hearted people.
“My greatest wish is to continue being with my family, to watch my children grow, to be present during the most important moments of their lives, and to give them what children need most: their father’s love and support. That is why I am asking for help. Your support will give me the opportunity to continue the treatment I need, to keep fighting the disease, and to hold on to the hope of spending more years together with my family. From the bottom of my heart, I thank everyone who supports me with a kind word, thoughts, prayers, or a donation. Every act of support means so much to me and my family and gives us the strength to continue this fight,” says Uldis.
A request has been submitted to the National Health Service of Latvia for an individual reimbursement of €30,000, but the family is still waiting for a decision.
