Back in 2021, Jelena was living a normal, active life - a job she loved, walks, cycling, travel, and plans for the future. Then everything changed - she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer that had spread to her liver.
Since then, treatment has become part of her everyday life. Even after intensive treatment and major surgery, whenever her health allowed, she returned to the activities she enjoyed and tried to make the most of every opportunity to live a full life. Because of the illness and treatment, she eventually had to give up her work as an accountant, a job that had always been a very important part of her life.
This year, however, the cancer progressed, and the previous treatment options were exhausted.
Looking for another way to continue treatment, the family paid for advanced molecular testing of the tumor in Estonia. This brought new hope - the results enabled doctors to identify a suitable therapy for Jelena. The treatment has been prescribed by a multidisciplinary tumor board.
The main barrier between Jelena and receiving this treatment is now the cost of the medication.
For her diagnosis, this therapy is not covered by the public healthcare system. An application for individual reimbursement has been submitted to Latvia's National Health Service, but a decision has not yet been received and the chances of a positive outcome are limited. The family has also contacted the pharmaceutical company in an effort to find another way for her to access the treatment, but unfortunately this has not been successful.
Time is especially important now - treatment needs to begin without delay. The medication for each infusion costs 5,216.96 euros. Treatment is administered every three weeks. The total cost of the prescribed course of treatment is 52,169.60 euros.
We are therefore asking for your help so that Jelena can receive the treatment she needs. Every contribution, no matter the amount, helps make this treatment possible.
She still has plans she wants to fulfill, people she wants to be with, and places she wants to go.
