People with mental illnesses and mental disorders face significant problems with dental health. These people often have poor dental health because they are unaware of the need to brush their teeth regularly, are unable to do so properly, and do not allow their caregivers to do so. As a result, their teeth deteriorate more often and more quickly, and their overall dental health is poorer. It should be noted that they are unable to say that their teeth hurt, so inflammation of the teeth and gums may go unnoticed and cause greater health problems. In such cases, dental treatment is often only possible under general anesthesia, as people with mental illness or mental disorders do not cooperate with the doctor, do not understand the doctor's commands, and are not even willing to open their mouths, let alone have their teeth treated or extracted. The cost of anesthesia alone starts at €200 per hour, and it often takes at least two hours to repair or extract several teeth. The bill for one such visit can be as high as €1,000. These people do not receive discounts on dental services; in fact, they pay more than others. Many families are unable to pay such bills, so they need help.
