Volodymyr Rudkovskyi is known to Latvian audiences as one of the main characters in the documentary film "Ukrainian Sheriffs". The film tells the story of two local "sheriffs" who help maintain order in the remote village of Stara Zburivka in the Kherson region.
Today, Volodymyr serves in the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the Eastern Front as part of a vehicle repair unit. The unit’s task is to repair damaged military vehicles and return them to service as quickly as possible. To carry out this work, the unit urgently needs various tools for repairing military equipment. Funds are also being raised to purchase a vehicle for the repair unit itself. Due to intensive Russian drone attacks, vehicles operating near the front line are regularly damaged or destroyed, making the need for reliable transport constant.
The fate of Volodymyr and his community following Russia’s full-scale invasion is also the focus of the exhibition "Ukrainian Sheriffs. Not to Lose Home.", which will be on view at the Dubulti Art Station from 11 September to 2 October.
