In August 2008, a new Social Care Centre and a Retirement Home Liepa opened its doors. The Centre provides long-term residence possibilities for 45 retirement-age people and for disabled people. For many of them, this is their only home and it is all the family they have because their children, relatives or friends have been long gone.
With the support of the municipality and contributors new furniture has been purchased for the newly renovated premises, as has been the necessary equipment for the elderly to feel safer and happier. Unfortunately, all these people suffer from health problems. To make their daily lives easier, the residents are taken care of by the Care Centre personnel. The presence of medical workers is provided, care providers are available day and night and recreational activities are provided.
However there is one significant shortcoming in the Centre. Taking into consideration that the Centre is located in a two-storey building and that the rooms of the residents are located on both floors, it is quite complicated for many of the elderly and people with disabilities to get down to the first floor dining room because there is no elevator or a lift for the disabled. Although the entrance into the building corresponds to all requirements, people with moving disorders cannot go outside on their own to breath the fresh air in the lawn next to the building.
In February 2009, a deficiency was identified during the examination performed by the Social Service Register– the lack of a lift that would provide free access possibilities for the residents of the Social Care Centre. The association was instructed to install the lift by 1 January, 2010, but unfortunately the source of the funding was not indicated…
The association is a non-profit organisation working for social care and unfortunately does not have the necessary LVL 14 000 for the installation of the lift.
What will be achieved by this project?
The Social Care Centre hopes to receive your support to provide the residents of the Care Centre free access possibilities around the building and for the simple necessity to find a way to get outside into the fresh air.
Project implementer: Association Dzintarkrasta serviss
The association Dzintarkrasta serviss will monitor the planning and installation works of the lift, choosing the lowest-price offer.
