Evita from Valmiera urgently needs our help: “There are moments when your whole life suddenly collapses like a house of cards, leaving only hope... Until now, my world has been filled with love, songs and boundless energy, as I’ve always loved being on the go, which is why my leisure activities have always been very active – singing in a choir, getting involved in organising various events, as well as enjoying active outdoor recreation with my family. I have a wonderful and loving family – a supportive partner, with whom I have been together for 24 years, and our children: a daughter who is currently still at university, and a 12-year-old son who is in Year 6.
This spring brought some unpleasant news – I lost my beloved job at an international company, and this was followed by the biggest blow of all – the diagnosis of a rare form of breast cancer, followed by a gruelling course of chemotherapy involving two types of medication; unfortunately, neither course of treatment had the desired effect and the disease progressed. At present, the only way to halt the disease and allow me to continue living is a medicine prescribed by a panel of doctors, which is very expensive and, unfortunately, is not included on the list of medicines covered by the state*.
In the current situation, where I am unemployed and undergoing long-term treatment involving significant costs, our family’s financial resources have been exhausted and we are unable to raise this sum on our own. I am appealing from the bottom of my heart for the public’s help – every euro donated will make a difference to me and strengthen my hope of recovering and living a full life.”
The medicines prescribed by the medical panel cost 5,216 euros every three weeks, and 88,672 euros for a year-long course of treatment. The family does not have these funds. Let’s help!
*An application for individual compensation has been submitted to the National Health Service, but a response is expected within a month and hopes of receiving support are minimal.
