When the Show is Over…

After leaving the theatre, creative personalities who have devoted their working life to the art of performing find it very hard to adapt to the new social economic circumstances. Especially those who have left the stage because of their age or because they were forced to do so, such as what happens with the Youth Theatre and Musical Theatre. If we remember the wages of former theatre employees, then it is clear, that pensions for those people are below the average pensions in our state.

Many performing artists, who have spent their creative lives in public admiration and love, now feel forgotten and useless. To reach out a helping hand to the former artists of the theatre and their critical states of health and social circumstances, the Latvian Theatre Support Foundation for the Creative Personalities was created in February 2008. The Foundation has already completed its research and has determined that support is needed for 147 former performing artists. Solving health problems is required for 83 artists – funds for surgeries, rehabilitation, medicine etc. 41 of them are urgent cases. The majority of them need support in the social field, which includes issues of social premises for those who are living in owned houses, as well as support in solving legal issues.

Let’s not be indifferent and let’s support the artists who brought joy to the hearts of entire generations, but now are lonely and forgotten. To provide support, LVL 200 - 500 are needed for one artist. These people find it very hard to disclose their helplessness and powerlessness, because they whish to remain in the memories of their spectators as beautiful, capable and admired. This is why we cannot publish their names without their approval. But detailed reports will be provided for the implementation of the donated funds.

Project implementer: The Latvian Theatre Support Foundation for the Creative Personalities. The foundation was established on 25 February, 2008, after receiving information about the critical health and social circumstances of former artists from the Latvian Theatres.
