Ludmila is 61. She’s worked as a tax and accounting consultant for many years, helping her clients and sharing her knowledge with her younger colleagues. Ludmila’s son is 37, and she has a little grandson.
During a health check two years ago, Ludmila was diagnosed with an intestinal cancer. Her treatment was started immediately with 20 courses of chemotherapy and an operation.
Her condition has now come to a point where state-funded drugs are no longer working, and a medical panel has recommended Vectibix, an anticancer drug. Sadly, the National Health Service has refused funding for this drug, and so Ludmila is asking the people around her for help. One dose costs €2,400 and ten doses are needed, with an injection every two weeks. Ludmila must begin using the drug as soon as possible, but her family savings aren’t enough to pay for it. The total cost is €24,000.
