Parents bringing up a child with coordination disorder dream of their child standing up from a wheelchair and walking on its own or with the help of a supportive means.
Cerebral palsy is one of the most widespread diagnoses in the world and in Latvia, and children with this diagnosis form the biggest part of disabled children. Cerebral palsy is not an in-born disease. Damage to the brain can be inflicted during pregnancy or labor, or, caused by an illness, after birth - from the neonatal period up to the age of 2 years. Though cerebral palsy is incurable to date, in many cases, movement quality can be successfully improved by applying a complex of healing and rehabilitation methods. It is possible to reach the maximum result according to a child’s age – crawling, walking, holding an object and putting on cloths.
Modern orthopaedic operations are a great success, which is why many children are advised to undergo an operation in the Munich Orthopaedic Clinic that specialises in neuro-orthopaedics and is one of leading clinics in Europe. The applied methods allow several manipulations during one operation, as well as contribute to a remarkably shorter post-operation and healing period. Operations in Munich are not sponsored by the state, and families have to pay from their own budget. The costs are high and parents call out for our support to help their children walk.
