There are many dozens of families in Latvia who care for seriously ill children at home: children whose care and survival require a huge amount of emotional and physical effort.
The children are like silent angels, who, with trusting eyes, depend on their mothers and fathers for understanding and support. However, these parents find it incredibly hard to look on as their child suffers from serious genetic, metabolic or neurological diseases.
The parents must shoulder the burden of daily care: looking after them, helping, washing and providing medication. Usually, one of the parents must give up their career to look after and stay with the sick child. In Latvia, children do not have access to palliative care wards in hospitals or hospices, which would provide relief for the carers, even if just for a little while.
The charitable project “Silent angel” helps to provide funding where there is no state support: for example, with medical nutrition, low carbohydrate diets, hygiene products, special beds and similar requirements.
Silent angels can’t ask us for help, but we can hear them in our hearts and we can help. Let’s help silent angels to live!
