Dozens of families in Latvia provide medical treatment for their seriously ill children at home. Ensuring everyday care needed for their life may demand a huge emotional and physical endurance.
These children are like little silent angels who are looking at Mom with a trusting gaze. And their little hearts know – Mom will understand and help. It is unbearable for Mom and Dad to watch their little child suffering from complicated genetic diseases and metabolic and neurological disorders.
The parents are bearing the burden of the daily care – tending, manual handling, washing and injecting medication. Usually, one of the parents does not work in order to be next to and to take care of the ill child. In Latvia, palliative care units in hospitals or hospices to facilitate child care, though temporarily, are not available.
The charity project “Silent Angel” aims to assist in covering the needs not funded by the state, for example, medical nutrition – ketogenic diet, hygienic products, special beds and other similar needs.
Silent angels cannot ask for help, but we can listen to our hearts and help.
