Ziedot.lv Social Enterprise

“Ziedot.lv Social Enterprise” Founded

The Charity Foundation “Ziedot” has created its social enterprise to promote charity fundraising and to create new employment possibilities in this economically difficult time.

Social enterprises are recognised worldwide and are a form of promoted social entrepreneurship. It differs from a standard company by several functions. Firstly, the majority stake of a social enterprise is owned by charity organisations. This means that the profit of the enterprise is received by the charity organisations and is utilised for the implementation of their goals and to provide support. Secondly, a social enterprise employs those social groups that are not always involved in the standard business. For example, people with disabilities, employees of pre-retirement age or mothers raising children at home and who cannot work full time. Social enterprises thus create new employment opportunities and provide support to socially vulnerable groups. Thirdly, social enterprises also provide social services.

Since 4 October 2009. 70 % of SIA Ziedot.lv Social Enterprise shares are held by the Foundation “Ziedot”, 30 % are held by SIA No Limits!, which invested the accountancy software. The Directors of the Board are Rūta Dimanta and Ieva Tomsone. The board receives no remuneration. If the enterprise achieves profit, 70 % of the profit (the Foundation “Ziedot” part) will be transferred to the Charity Foundation "Ziedot" for the implementation of the projects and for providing support. No foundations have been used and will not be used for the funding of the enterprise and for its activities.

The “Ziedot.lv Social Enterprise” is planning to provide accountancy services for companies, especially charity organisations, practices for socially vulnerable groups and other consultations.

The Charity Foundation “Ziedot” is creating the charity portal “Ziedot.lv”, implementing the Food Bank “For a Fed Latvia” and a programme for families with disabled children – “Dear Nanny”, provides practices free of charge within the NGO Institute and has created the Regional Charity Organisation Network. As the activities of the Foundation “Ziedot” are widely applied and related mainly to raising donations, a decision was made to separate the economical activity from the basic activity of the Foundation.
