Ziedot.lv History
The Internet portal Ziedot.lv is a joint initiative of the foundation "Ziedot" and Swedbank.
Philanthropy experts who take part in the foundation "Ziedot" have gained experience by working in the Non-governmental Organisation Centre. For many years, the Non-governmental Organisation Centre has implemented programmes that promote the development of philanthropy in Latvia. The gratitude campaign “Labā zvaignze” (The Good Star) has been organised for several years together with the Latvian Ministry of Welfare and the Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments; information was regularly prepared for businessmen about philanthropic values and their relation to good business practice, non-governmental organisations were educated about the fair implementation of donations and, with the help of mass media, a wider public was addressed on the significance and importance of charity.
As a socially responsible company, Swedbank has regularly implemented corporative charity programmes since it began its work in Latvia, These programmes are targeted to taking care of the society and environment in which the bank operates. The bank has defined its priorities as education, supporting sports, social protection and public health promotion projects.
In developing the charity portal Ziedot.lv, both partners have set a common goal – to promote social changes in Latvia by helping to develop both individual and corporative donations. Along with the increasing role of information technologies in all spheres of life, this portal also offers an innovative approach to charity.
Ziedot.lv is the chance to help out during hard times. It is a system that provides quick, safe, targeted and open donations. Ziedot.lv is like a bridge between those who need help and those who can and are willing to give it.
