“Please, help. My child needs special attention…” We hear these words from despaired parents. Usually, people turn for help only when something tragic happened and they do not see light at the end of the tunnel, because it is so hard to say “help me/my child”. That is why we, the Support Centre for Families and Children with Special Needs “Cimdins”, undertook this role of asking help for our children. Our Moms are the best, they overcame embarrassment, helplessness, humiliation, suggestions to give up a child (because he or she will not understand a thing, will never walk, will not live long, will have to be taken care of all his/her life, will not make their parents happy…), but they keep fighting for their children’s life, health, development opportunities and hope that their children will bring joy and happiness to the family and people around.
Our organisation has been working with ill children for many years and it is always such a joy to see a child who, as doctors think, would never walk making the first steps, when a child with hearing problems can attend the 1st year in a comprehensive school (not in a school for children with hearing problems in distant Riga or Valmiera, far away from the family, but here, in Ventspils), when a child with profound mental disability or a genetic disorder makes the first sounds and words, when a child who due to an inborn heart disease would be bound to live a couple of days celebrates the 1st birthday and joyfully runs around together with brother.
Thanks to continuous activities of the Support Centre “Cimdins”, we have been able to achieve that families turn for help when a child is at an early age, which will contribute to much better results in child’s development, because the most intense development period is until eight.
Thanks to the project “Help Me Be Healthy”, our Emils, Rihards and Gustavs are able to hold the head, make the first steps, make sounds and familiarise themselves with the world. There is such a joy about what’s been achieved!
Now Renars, Kristers and other little ones are waiting for their chance, for us to teach them to sit up, to walk, to learn the world and to address it.
It is important not to interrupt what we started. EUR 380 per month will help 80 children from Ventspils attend regular physiotherapy and music therapy sessions and live their childhood up to full extent. EUR 3.420 per year needed to allow children attend these sessions until the end of the year.
