Bringing up a child with special needs presents daily challenges for any family. In Latvia life for thousands of families is made all the more harder without the same emotional and financial support we take for granted back in our own countries.
Just think, with a structured health system offering everything from home care and occupational support, and a robust welfare system providing a cushion of financial help, a little of the strain is taken away from the daily routine of providing the right level of care, no matter the disability of the child.
In Latvia though the assistance is very limited.
Here in Latvia, we don’t enjoy the same infrastructure or health and social care that perhaps you’re aware of in your own country. And that’s why we need your support.
Your donation, however small, will go towards much needed support to these families. Not just financial but emotional and practical support. Help where it’s most needed: in the home. Listen to Mira’s story:
Life was good before Janus was born. We were a very happy family. But my husband couldn’t cope with Janus’ cerebral palsy, and left. I have to leave Janus in the flat on his own so I can go to work. I feel terribly guilty but without my job there would be no food on the table. He can stay in the flat for up to five days on his own. If I could afford to buy a wheelchair, then I would be able to take Janus to a day care centre where he would be given the proper care and attention he needs.
You can help good mothers like Mira by making even just a small donation to go towards giving Janus and children like him a better day-to-day life.
Just 10 Euros would provide Mira with a week’s day care, and 100 Euros a wheelchair which would allow Janus to live a more active life.
So please give whatever you can.
